Keynote address:
Extracting Knowledge from Electrical Demand Data

Abstract:
There is a growing attention towards the role of the electricity consumers to provide higher flexibility to the demand patterns. The characterisation of the electricity demand changes for different types of consumers (residential, industrial, commercial, and others), also depending on the resolution in time of the data available. Different approaches have been used to create consistent groups of consumers on the basis of the shape of their individual demand patterns (typically resorting to clustering techniques) and to represent the aggregate behaviour of the consumers (resorting to probabilistic techniques to identify the total demand for different aggregation levels). The presentation is focused on the aspects indicated above, highlighting the knowledge on the consumers' behaviour that can be extracted from the elaboration of the demand pattern data, and the services that may be provided to the electrical system operators.

Gianfranco CHICCO is a Full Professor of Electrical Energy Systems at Politecnico di Torino (POLITO), Italy. He graduated in Electrotechnics Engineering (honors) in 1987 at POLITO and obtained the Ph.D. in Electrotechnics Engineering in Italy in 1992.
